Curios
Canadian French (français canadien) is one of the official languages of Canada.
Approximately 8 million Canadians are French native speakers, while 2 million Canadians speak French as a second language.
The most prominent dialect is Quebec French, also known as québécois, the sole official language of the Province of Quebec. With some exceptions, formal Quebec French shares the same grammar and orthography as European French. Differences become more distinct in informal language. Many words and expressions are unique to Quebec, due to the influence from English and Native American languages.
Other varieties of Canadian French are spoken in several Provinces and Territories. Acadian French, for example, is the official language of New Brunswick alongside English and is spoken in parts of Nova Scotia.
